Semi-Detached
Production Design
Jonathan Paul Green was Production Designer on Semi-Detached, the BBC comedy starring Lee Mack, set around the increasingly chaotic life of Stuart and his family.
The production design centred on the suburban world of the characters, creating a recognisable and believable environment in which the comedy could unfold. Domestic interiors and locations needed to support the series’ fast-moving action and carefully choreographed sequences while remaining grounded in everyday life.
For key sequences, a full-scale car deck was constructed on location, together with purpose-built ferry toilet sets, giving the production the control and flexibility required for filming while creating a convincing environment on screen.
The design provided a strong visual framework for the escalating comedy, balancing the practical demands of filming with the detail and familiarity of the series’ everyday British setting.
