Stag
Production Design
Jonathan Paul Green was Production Designer on Stag, the BBC comedy thriller set in the Scottish Highlands.
The production combined extensive location work in Scotland with studio filming at Pinewood. One of the key design challenges was creating studio interiors that would integrate seamlessly with the Scottish locations, allowing the story to move convincingly between the two.
The Southmuir Arms, the remote Highland pub at the centre of the story, was created by transforming an existing Scottish farmhouse. Its design needed to feel authentic to the isolated setting while supporting the increasingly dark and surreal tone of the series.
Working across remote locations and constructed studio environments, the production design brought together architecture, dressing and landscape to create a consistent visual world. The unpredictable Scottish weather also became part of the practical challenge of maintaining continuity between location and studio work throughout the production.
