‘Wrecked’ Season 3 for TBS

Production Design

Jonathan Paul Green was Production Designer on Season 3 of Wrecked, an American comedy series for TBS, shot entirely in Fiji over ten weeks.

The production reunited me with long-time collaborators, director Jim Field Smith, and Director of Photography Rob Kitzmann, with whom I have worked on a number of projects. That established working relationship was particularly valuable on a production of this scale, where we were creating an ambitious visual world within the practical challenges of shooting entirely on location in Fiji.

Having scouted the principal location several months before filming, I decided to turn an abandoned golf clubhouse into our production base and effectively our studio. The building became central to the design: its exterior and upper floor were used as Declan’s Mansion, while within it we constructed corridors, bedrooms, a surveillance area and, in the basement, a cave set.

Other major builds included the crevasse set and a dream-sequence flashback environment, both constructed inside our workshop — an empty warehouse close to the main location. Throughout the production we combined purpose-built sets with adapted practical locations, taking advantage of Fiji’s landscape and the unusual spaces we had available.

The scale and location of the production required a substantial international art department of more than 50 people, bringing together crew from Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico and Fiji.

The photographs on this page show the breadth of the production design and construction work, from location transformations to fully constructed sets, and the practical solutions involved in creating a large-scale production entirely on location in Fiji.
